Penipe is the portal to the Amazon

A territory rich in flora and fauna, with great cultural heritage thanks to its traditions that have passed through time.

Penipe is a canton in the province of Chimborazo, located in the center of Ecuador. It has an area of 386 km with 7,155 inhabitants and is made up of 6 rural parishes and one urban parish.

In the Penipe canton, we have 20 geosites referenced within the Tungurahua Volcano Geopark Consortium. Several mountains, valleys, rivers and waterfalls make up our magical and enchanted place with more than 108 identified natural and cultural attractions.

Among the main natural attractions, the yellow lagoon stands out, located in the center of the crater of the El Altar volcano, an ancient elevation whose beauty predominates due to the shape of its peaks. Likewise, another of the most visited points is the Ghost's Eye, a place of mystery between mountains and thick vegetation where you can also enjoy the healing hot springs located at the base of the Tungurahua volcano.

As for gastronomy, we offer a varied and delicious menu thanks to traditional recipes that have been inherited from generation to generation. Corn flour tortillas, roasted on pongo stones and traditional fruit liquor cocktails harvested in the parishes and roast guinea pig are the preference of national and foreign tourists.

Penipe, has it all, its friendly people will be the best host to enjoy the adventure in the tourist spots where extreme sports such as canyoning, climbing, mountain biking, rappelling, and other activities that you can do as a family are practiced.

At Penipe, the adventure begins with you.
