The Geological Heritage of the Tungurahua Volcano Geopark is home to 20 Geosites whose formation processes describe part of the evolutionary history of the Earth from 417 million years ago (Ma) to the present, that is, ages that vary from the Paleozoic to the Quaternary.

It encompasses geomorphological features and lithology composed of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, in addition to quaternary deposits of volcanic origin, in which pyroclastic flows, lahars, lava and ash flows stand out, which associated with morphoclimatic, tectonic processes and natural phenomena encompass a wide Geodiversity, as well as various geological domains, the processes that have modeled them and the active natural events that have given rise to landscapes, rocks, minerals, fossils, soils and surface deposits that make up a set of natural resources of high value scientific, cultural and educational that, articulated with the heritage, cultural and tourist wealth, allow us to understand and understand the evolutionary processes of the Earth and its relationship with the development of anthropic activities, promoting the social, cultural and economic development of local communities.
